Initiatives and Duties that fall under the direct involvement of a Governing Board Officer (listed above) These initiatives, duties or teams are based on the goals and objectives of the Governing Board. 2007 to March 2008

Infusion Mentor / Director: Guides members wishing to infuse approved breeds. Submits infusion applications to board for vote and keeps track of vote. Corresponds with Dog Registrar and Breeder Members regarding approved infusion breeding stock. Keeps records on all approved infusion breeding stock.

Breed Standards Initiative: Define the Breed Standard. Review the Breed Standard as proposed by the QA manual and present changes to breeder members for vote based on QA process for changes to the Breed Standard. Support breeders in understanding the breed standard through ALAA website, presentations and literature.

Pet Membership Registrar: Corresponds with Pet Members regarding membership questions. Resolves paid members with PayPal and grants membership. Compares monthly financial statements to members paid during to ensure all memberships were granted. Sends out renewal letters to Breeder Members monthly. Tracks renewal payments and sends out reminders. Deactivates non-renewing members. Checks all non-renewal websites for ALAA logo and informs QA manager of non-members using logo.

Annual Budget Planner: Determines yearly budget based on projected income to goals of the governing board, balance sheet and yearly events. Propose to governing board changes in cost structure based on projected costs.

Health Testing Initiative: Direct Health Testing Team and work with ALAA breeding specialist veterinarians. Propose to governing board changes in requirements based on veterinarian advice.

Newsletter Editor: Publishes the Newsletter quarterly

Assistant Newsletter Editor: Gather articles for the ALAA newsletter quarterly, edit or obtain copy permission and send to the Newsletter Editor (PR Officer). Self-directed, under supervision of PR Officer. Nominated yearly.

Database Liason: Work with the Database designer (DogTrackTM) to translate the ALAA needs.

NEW: Infusion Team: Team to work with the Infusion Mentor and guide the infusion process. This team is to be nominated by the Infusion Mentor Yearly yearly.

This team will work on state breeding regulations being presented by states and counties for vote. This team is to be nominated by the President or Business Manager yearly.

Pet Member Services Team: Team with Public Relations Officer and Breeder Members Services Committee as possible to set goals for the year in establishing new and increasing services for pet members. This may include the addition of a professional grooming video, online yearly survey of health issues, etc. Leader to be nominated by PR Officer, team to be self-directed with approval of PR Officer. This team is to be nominated by the PR Officer yearly.

Breeder Member Services Team: Team with Public Relations Officer and Pet Members Services Committee as possible to set goals for the year in establishing new and increasing services for breeder members. This may include the Breeder Round Table. Leader to be nominated by the PR Officer and to be self-directed with approval of PR Officer. Team nominated by PR Officer yearly.

Rescue Network Committee Member: Work with rescue forums and breeder members with rehomes to ensure all rescue Labradoodles and Australian Labradoodles are receiving links on all breeder member websites and are represented on the IALA/ALAA website. Follow up to ensure our links are current and appropriate. This team is to be nominated by PR Officer yearly.

Labradoodle in Service Network Committee Member: Gather a full menu of Service dog Links for the IALA website from Canine Good Citizen to Therapy Dog, the Labradoodles in Service Forum would be included also. Write up one to two articles quarterly for the website on Labradoodles or Australian Labradoodles providing service including pictures by emailing IALA breeders and/or interviewing owners. Leader to be nominated by PR Officer, team to be self-directed with approval of PR Officer. This team is to be nominated by PR Officer yearly.

Paw Rewards/Health testing Team: Work with all current members of the paw program and a smaller set of that group to define changes to the program. All changes must be defined and supported based on Veterinary Breeding Specialist recommendations, specialists in the area of expertise. This team is to be nominated by HTI Officer yearly.

Assistant to Breed Standard Officer: Work under the Breed Standards Initiative Officer to support breeders in understanding the breed standard through ALAA website, presentations and literature. Team Leader nominated by the Breed Standards Initiative Officer, team self-directed with approval of Breed Standards Initiative Officer. This team is to be nominated by Breed Standards Initiative Officer yearly.

Dog Registrar: Paid contract employee: Registers all dogs and litters. The Registrar inputs all health testing, including audits of Paw program based on Health Testing Initiative Officer input. The Registrar works with QA Officer on yearly audits of breeder members. Updates records, maintains ALAA dog registry (DogTrackTM). The registrar also answers breeder member questions on registration and health testing services and requirements.

Governing Board Position Descriptions

Elected yearly at annual vote (March). Current Board presents the ALAA year in review and next year’s goals at annual conference call just prior to election. Current board is slated on ballot. Additional members wanting to be placed on the ballot may self nominate or be nominated. This requires a second nomination and a presentation of a platform during the annual ALAA conference call. Vacated officer positions outside of the yearly vote are nominated and elected by current officers as per the ALAA QA manual. Each officer holds one vote on governing board issues, these are limited to approving decisions of the Quality Assurance Board Member, Infusion Board Member, Budget, and approving issues and motions to go before membership vote. All officers may submit motions for vote or discussion to the governing board. In addition to the duties below each officer directs one or more team, assignment or initiative as listed. All officers, initiative directors, and committee members are volunteers.

Officer Background Information

Dixie Moore, Governing Board President

Handles ALAA daily issues as President, working with and supporting the ALAA Governing Board and corresponding with ALAA breeders via bi monthly emails. The ALAA President works with the ALAA legal counsel and business council. The president writes and develops initiatives for the ALAA by organizing a team of ALAA members to address issues of concern within the ALAA guided by the governing board goals and objectives, and regulations. The ALAA president is responsible to ensure the board and members follow the corporate rules and regulations of the ALAA, the ALAA charter, goals and objectives. The ALAA president is required to take on at least one additional initiative.

A native Texan, Dixie resides in Central Texas near Austin. She has two daughters, Joel and Jessica, and a grandson, Dakota, age 5. Both girls attend college and help out with Doodle-sitting when needed. Dixie’s family also includes F1, F1B, and multigen Labradoodles named Buttercup, Cayenne, Reba, Mudgee and Matilda, along with Chewbacca the Poodle and Brodie the Border Terrier. When Dixie is not at home with her family, she works as a Project Analyst for a major computer manufacturer.

Dixie has been a dog lover all of her life. When she discovered Labradoodles several years ago, she was immediately smitten. She has been Secretary of the ILA since April of 2004, and has met many wonderful new friends whose hearts have been captured by these very special furry creatures. Linda Gelaude, Vice President

 

Butch Charlton, Treasurer

Current selected assignment, Annual Budget Planner. The ALAA Treasurer maintains the ALAA not for profit association books, monthly financials and budget.

Butch Charlton has been involved since 2001 when he purchased his first Labradoodle from Australia. Within six months he found himself on a flight to Australia to really investigate the breed.

Since then he started his kennel, retired from the high tech world where he was a Chief Technology Officer for a major telecom corporation, worked on his golf game and concentrated on breeding quality Labradoodles. He is the proud owner of eight Labradoodles and truly loves being involved with the advancement of the breed in N. America. Linda Layman, Breeder Standard Officer, Quality Assurance

Breed Standard Officer reviews ALAA breeder programs, as to their adherence to the ALAA breed standard and grading scheme. She has the authority to compile infractions, make recommendations to the ALAA board as to infraction penalties via the QA process and carry out these infractions. As Secondary QA, Linda will take over QA assignments when the QA officer is unavailable or personally involved in a QA case.

Linda & Tom Layman live outside Wichita Kansas on 5 acres. They have 2 grown daughters and 6 Grandchildren. After working in the Aircraft and Trucking Industry for many years Linda says she was ready for a more quiet life, so she decided to stay at home and concentrate on raising her dogs.

Linda says the best thing about raising and having dogs is they "Love You Unconditionally." Linda has worked with several of her dogs in Obedience & Agility Training, and currently has "Gracielou" her Yellow Lab that is also a Therapy Dog and Canine Good Citizen Gracie goes with Linda to local Nursing Homes and also during the School year goes once a week to School with Paula, Linda's oldest Daughter. She is working with Dexter her chocolate F1 Labradoodle in obedience and hopes to make him a Therapy Dog as well.

Right now they are raising and breeding F1's with F1B's in the very near future, they will continue with Multi Gens in their breeding program. Information on her and her program can be found at 4 Paws Puppies.

Rochelle Sundholm, Public Relations Officer

Current selected assignment, Newsletter Editor. Maintains all Public Relations related Committees and the assignments of those committees. This includes Breeder Member Services, Pet Member Services, Rescue Network Team, and Labradoodle in Service Network Team. Answers all press and news related questions as well as general inquires.

Mindi McMilian, Registrar, breeder members

Current selected assignment; based on current enrollment no additional assignments are recommended. The registrar follows the ALAA Quality Assurance for all applying kennels to maintain their adherence to the ALAA standards of excellence in breeding, Code of Ethics and Rules and Regulations. Works constantly with the Dog registrar. The QA process is a strict detailed process following the ALAA guidelines. The Registrar sends out ALAA letters to new breeders guiding them through the process, makes assignments of mentors, and above all ensures proper procedures are followed. Mindi is of Colonial Village Labradoodles.

Carol Dean, Secretary

Records all meetings and correspondence via electronic files, handles all online votes and agendas for meetings as required by the ALAA regulations. The Secretary is required to take on at least two additional initiatives.
