Scheduled Doodle Romps
The November 2007 Breeders’ Roundtable was a fantastic success! We are pleased to report over 60 breeders attended this year’s events in Orlando, Florida.
Events included professional speakers on topics such as the following:
- Puppy training 0 to 8 weeks, specifically addressing the Rules of 7’s (below) and Early Neurological Stimulation (http://breedingbetterdogs.com/achiever.html)
- Julianne Larsen on Training and Donation of Therapy Dogs (http://www.hsdm.org/whatwedo/assistance_dogs.asp )
- Genetics for dog breeders - a summary of current information plus health and the breed DNA test (for a copy contact dogs@ilainc.com )
- A question and answer period with our veterinarian breeding specialist, Dr. Arun
- Presentation of the ALAA breed standard including a demonstration of typing a dog to the breed standard (details will be included on the ALAA website soon)
- The TTouch technique (http://www.amazon.com/Getting-TTouch-Your-Dog-Behavior/dp/1570762066/ref=si3_rdr_bb_product ) to help with the relaxation of your female prior to whelp or times of anxiety.
Please note: I would like to mention that the fee for the Roundtable was correct as charged. Dinner was $35/person. This was the exact cost the resort charged per person for the meal and paid to the resort. This was written correctly as $35 in one area of the ALAA romp website and as $35 in the ALAA PayPal link text and charge. However, in another area of the website it was written that dinner would be $30/person. I apologize for this error.

Past Doodle Romps
The 2006 Nov 3-5th Breeders Round Table and Doodle Romp at Reunion Resort A huge success! We had 22 Breeders from as far away as Oregon,
Kansas and Mississippi in attendance for the Education Series. This included a Friday night Dinner to share information
on our programs and ideas to help each other in all aspects of breeding. Members shared everything from grooming tools
to puppy package information. Saturday’s night dinner began with Dr. Arun’s one of the east coasts’ premier reproduction
specialist veterinarians, owner of Summit Blvd Animal Hospital, West Palm Beach, on Health,
Breeding and Whelp. Breeders
sent in a series of questions in advance and Dr. Arun answered these along with additional questions raised. This
detailed question and answer session was incredible. Dr. Arun as a leader in his field had much quality information to
share. How many times have you wanted to sit down with a leading veterinarian breeding specialist and just ask
questions? This was that time.
Following Dr. Arun, Jocelyn McGinness canine behavioralist and Orlando's favorite doodle puppy trainer 386-490-2897,
discussed in addition to week 4 being the most
critical in a puppies development, spending 2 minutes a day with each puppy to begin training towards the initial
steps of training. This focused on body language and behavior training. A link and a paper from this session will be
available on the webpage.
The Doodle Romp offered a variety of doodle color and fun. Joel Slaven, the famous animal trainer offered a
training demonstration, families and doodles alike ran and played on the 5 acre site. The event was fun and free for
about 80 people and 35 doodles. Large Raffle prizes were awarded with everything from dog treat gift baskets, a $100
gift certificate to poop scooping by the Pet Butler Poop Scooping Service to Tickets to Sea World. The Pescovitz Family
and Professional Image donated doodle bandannas, t-shirts and hats to sell for the doodle
rescue and the kids raised $206! Pookie's Bakery
provided treats and the Kelly of the Pet Butler provided a poop free environment.
On down time breeder hung out at the lazy river in the Reunion Resort water park, spent time at the spa, and
generally enjoyed the time together.
I would like to thank Jenny Mairot of Kingdom Labradoodles who spent great time and effort with me planning
and implementing the Round Table and Romp. Once I gather up enough energy I know everyone wants us to begin planning
for next year. Jenny has already sent me ideas for many more education sessions. So mark your calendars for the first
weekend in November 2007.
2nd Annual Kansas Doodle Romp
On April 29, 2006 Double D Labradoodles and 4 Paws Puppies hosted their 2nd Annual Kansas Doodle Romp at the Wag'en Tail Ranch in Valley Center, Ks. We had 33 people and 15 Doodles who braved the bad weather to join us for a really great time.
Thanks to Mark Hall, webmaster of www.labradoodles-dogs.net , we had lots of Labradoodle t-shirts to give out as door prizes. We all enjoyed listening to Jan Ronald, dog trainer and animal behaviorist, talk about the importance of having a well trained, obedient dog. Also there to give us some tips on grooming was Kelly Spencer who, along with Jan, works at the Family Dog Training Center located at Wag-en Tail Ranch. Kelly and her Labradoodle, Dudley, provided entertainment for us as Dudley woo'd the crowd with his numerous tricks. We also had an agility session where all the Doodles got to try their athleticism out on the agility equipment, under the guidance of Jan Ronald.
To wrap things up, we had everyone vote for their favorite Doodles (no one could vote for their own) as King and Queen of the Romp. Diane and I are very proud to announce that Kelly Spencer's Dudley who came from 4 Paws Puppies and Phoebe owned by Diane Hyler of Double D Labradoodles were crowned King and Queen Doodle.
We all look forward to our 3rd Annual Romp to be scheduled in the spring of 2007.
